Lindsay Bessell, one of the Bolton spokespeople for justice4bolton, summed it up at the end of the trial: “It is a policeman’s word against a protester so it was obvious there would be guilty verdict.

“There is no justice in the legal system and that’s why justice4bolton has formed to ensure this sort of thing stops.
Hopefully this decision will be challenged and we will continue to support other defendants.”

The five are facing prosecution for their part in opposing the racist EDL rally in Bolton on March 20. At the same time, justice4bolton has received an alarming number of reports of anti-fascist demonstrators being subject to unprovoked violence and unjustified arrest at the hands of the police on that day.

We now know of five anti-fascists who have been charged with offences against the police and whose court cases will begin on 4th October at Bolton Magistrates Court. Please send solidarity delegations and/or messages of support.

“We need imaginative tactics and strategy to deal with the EDL…anti-fascists should be prepared to prevent the terrorising of immigrant communities if fascist elements are allowed to go ahead with their provocation…” j4b Treasurer

About Us

justice4bolton is driving through its campaign about the way anti fascists were policed when we mobilised, through Unite Against Fascism(UAF), to stop the racist English Defence League (EDL) in Bolton on 20th March 2010.

j4b originally launched to stop the criminalisation of the 55 anti-fascists arrested that day.

Now, after many months, and a fantastic response from so many people who were in Bolton that day, police investigations into conspiracy charges against the antifascist organisers have been stopped. Of the five anti fascists who were being prosecuted, one was found Not Guilty, two cases were dropped because of anti-fascist video evidence and two cases remain outstanding, one of which is an appeal against a guilty verdict.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission is now managing an investigation into the policing of one anti fascist who was originally charged.

j4b is continuing to work with all the anti fascists in Bolton that day - and their networks. The police must be brought to account and that includes having a People’s Enquiry into the policing that day. We need your support and involvement….
